Video Interview With Kiki Sabater: Set Me On Fire Before I Blow

A great series of videos from musician and author Kiki Sabater on her book Set Me On Fire Before I Blow; being creative and connecting with people; on being judged and social media; on being a musician; and New York City.

Set Me On Fire Before I Blow

Set Me On Fire Before I Blow is a mixed-medium monograph and curatorial exploration from author, artist and musician Kiki Sabater. Based on a series of notebooks kept by Sabater from 2012 to 2018, this book explores the innermost thoughts of a young female artist. Stylized photos capture intimate moments and accompany raw and unfiltered journal entries and handwritten excerpts from Sabater's notebooks. In poems, lyrics, essays, prose and photos Sabater examines what it means to be a woman, a writer, a musician, and a lover who wrestles with mental illness and shares these experiences without boundary or judgement.

“Captivating imagery, engaging on every page, Set Me on Fire Before I Blow is like nothing I’ve ever read. The author shares the deepest parts of her life with the reader. About Kiki Sabater

Kiki Sabater started her artistic journey of expression in theatre. She began her training at art schools in South Florida. After studying at conservatory in the UK, Sabater moved back to the east coast to attend college, studying both Theatre and Sociology. It was here in the U.S. she developed her poetic style of writing. Her journals are annotated and crowded with writing and notes about self-discovery. After Sabater’s move to New York City, her writing delved deeper into her experiences. Sabater’s work is both personal and introspective. She documents mundane depression-drenched Brooklyn winter mornings to euphoric highs of floating into weeks of wild indecision. When she’s not writing bent over her notebook, she screams into microphones in Brooklyn, NYC with her rock band.
